Cheetas at Mabula Game Lodge
I was amazed and impressed by Mabula Game Lodge. I am often in Johannesburg and the game lodge is only about 2,5 hrs North by car. There are many animals and birds to be seen. The drives are by Game Vehicles and there are many different drives available. The place is neat and well-kept and there is a very large and impressive restaurant there. We opted for the self-catering and took food with. The little superette there is very basic – rather take food with from nearby. Johannesburg or Pretoria would be a suggestion as everything else seems far and inadequate. The braai facilities at the lodges are very impressive and the places are well-equipped and spacious with a large fridge-freezer. The stoep/veranda area is very large with a beautiful view of wild animals in a valley. Hope you also have a good view. Remember to take a camera and binoculars with – also for the game drives.
On the first morning we were driven for about 3 hrs in a game vehicle. We started at about 6h00 (have coffee and rusks before you leave) – make sure you have warm clothes for the early mornings and evenings! Because of covid, no knee blankets etc are provided on the open vehicles.
It was quite misty – lovely but not that easy to spot animals. We were told by our guide that we were about to see a cheetah family. There were 3 cubs of about 10 months old and their mother. They were so fast and active and played and chased each other in the mist. Marvellous and funny to watch. I have 5 kittens at home so related to the wild playtime under the watchful gaze of the mother.
